Waxy Monkey Frog

(Phyllomedusa sauvagii)

Waxy monkey frogs (Phyllomedusa sauvagii) are aptly named. These frogs spend their lives high up in the South American canopy where they get a lot of sun! To protect themselves, they secrete a waxy lipid and use their long arms and legs to spread it evenly over their body to act as a sunscreen. In captivity, they love to eat crickets and other insects that are dusted with a calcium and vitamin powder, and should be given a basking spot in the low 90s.
