Red Mountain Bamboo Rat Snake

(oreocryptophis porphyracea pulchra)

Here we have a Red Mountain Bamboo Rat Snake (oreocryptophis porphyracea pulchra), a highly sought after species for many snake enthusiasts. The Bamboo Rat Snake species complex is restricted to a few remote mountain ranges in northern Thailand where they live in the leaf litter of high elevation tropical forests. Because of this specialized environment they are a challenging species to work with that only experienced keepers should attempt. Requiring cooler temperatures (anything above 80 degrees for prolonged periods is fatal) and relatively high humidity, their care is unlike most other snakes in captivity. We currently have captive bred groups of three Bamboo Rat Snake subspecies and are looking forward to breeding them in the near future.
